State Track and Field

(L-R): Michael Koleosho and Braden Rhodes

Multiple Bloomington high school track and field athletes made their mark on this season, including the state’s newest shot put champion who broke a nearly 50-year-old school record.

Jefferson High School senior Michael Koleosho won the state meet in the Class AAA boys shot put with a toss of 61 feet, 8.5 inches, a new school record. The previous record was 55 feet, 4 inches, set by Steve Nelson in 1978.

Kennedy High School senior Braden Rhodes placed 5th at state in the boys 400 meter dash with a time of 48.05, setting a new school record after breaking it twice earlier this season with times of 49.59 and 48.45. Prior to this season, the school record of 49.64 was set in 2016 by Juan Bowers.

Jefferson senior Amelia Borgen placed 10th in the girls 1600 meter run and 16th in the girls 3200. Kennedy junior Graham Wood finished 13th in the boys 1600, and senior Ryan Kruger placed 16th and 18th in the boys long jump and triple jump.

Jefferson seniors Sara Grant and Landon Wages also competed at state in the preliminary rounds of the girls 300 meter hurdles, and boys 300 and 110 meter hurdles, respectively.
