Jefferson High School senior Jackson Mezera is Strib Varsity’s All-Minnesota Boys Volleyball Player of the Year. The annual awards event, held at Allianz Field on June 18, recognizes outstanding achievements by athletes, coaches and high school programs across the state.
Mezera was the top server in the state for the second year in a row with 75 aces, one of the state’s top setters with 589 assists (7th in the state), 28 blocks, and ranked second on the team for kills with 211. Mezera was voted team MVP for the second year in a row and earned all-state, all-conference, and academic all-state honors.
The team finished the season with a 25-5 record, won their conference, and was ranked fourth in the state by the MN Boys Volleyball Coaches Association. The team fell to the eventual state tournament runner-up Eden Prairie in the section semifinal.

Mezera credits his and his teammate’s passion for beach volleyball for many of the team’s achievements.
“Jefferson players play a lot of beach volleyball. It’s a high-touch game that translates well to a good indoor game on the court. I’m excited to be one of the first players from Minnesota to play beach volleyball in college,” said Mezera
“There are not a lot of setters that are also great hitters, and that’s what makes Jackson stand out. He is an elite setter and hitter and that will serve him well playing in college next year,” said head coach Scott Sieling.
Mezera plans to attend Hope International University in Fullerton, CA where he plans to play both traditional and beach volleyball.
