The Jefferson High School softball team won their first-ever MSHSL Class 4A state championship June 5 at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus.
The Jaguars defeated Forest Lake 1-0 in an extra inning. Players Clarissa Clifford, Emily Ly, Alexandra Oerther and Grace Rolek made the state all-tournament team.
For the second year in a row, the team won the Section 2AAAA and Metro West Conference championships. They boasted an overall 27-1 record this season.
“This win, this whole season really, meant so much for our team,” said senior captain Grace Rolek. “No game was won by a single person. Every person on the roster contributed. That’s what set our team apart this year.”
This is the Jaguars’ sixth state tournament appearance in team history.
